Speedrunning can be done on a lot of games... you just gotta take practice and learn how to be fast at a game. There are even achievements on a couple of games (Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut for example on Steam) where it's required to be fast in order to get it.

I can beat Metroid Fusion 100% (and 99%) faster then some people can beat it 1%. (Check my signature for proof of that.) I am being challenged to Speedrun MaGLXII Any% (292 stars required to unlock the winning level.) Any game can be speedran if you know what you are doing.

When I was 13 I beat the first Super Mario Bros. In about 15 minutes, since I knew where all the warp zones were.
When I first got Super Mario 3d Land for my 3ds I beat it after 2 days- which I consider pretty good for a new-ish Mario game. I took me about 6 months to finish Super Mario Galaxy 2!
If I didnt mess around I could probably beat Fallout: New Vegas within a couple hours.. but whats the fun in skipping all of the exploring and messing around?

The only game I've speedran (if that's the term) is the original Super Mario Bros. I speedrun it whenever I'm bored.

Ambiguously active.

After 102%ing DKC2, I replayed it and tried to go as fast as possible for another 102%... I got just under 5 hours.

On Speedruns.com, There are 2 times in the any% category that are slower than my 99% run when I just forgot to grab an unmissable item. ...or was you talking about MaGLXII?

Personally, I can speedrun Super Mario World pretty easily.

The best Mario games to speed run would be any one which allows for skipping most worlds (I.E: SMB, SMBLL, SMB2, SMB3, SMW and NSMB games)
But any game can be speed ran.
Signatures are overrated

I don't even skip the worlds in SMW, it's really not necessary. If you put it into retrospect, Super Mario World is actually a lot shorter than Super Mario Bros. 2 or 3 are, without using the world skips even.

Well if you are going for records then going through the star world would definitely be how you do it.

There are games that do require for you to be fast and get everything ingame as in be fast and get 100% at the same time for an achievement to get it. Shantae games do it (not the 1st one since that one is on the GBC).

I think most metroid games do it as well. At least Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, and Metroid Fusion do so at least. The others are a combination of either time or 100%, not both. (I.E. the first two are based on time only, while the Prime series and Other M is based on completion alone)

Wouldn't you still need to use the star road to get 100%?
SMW would be longer than the previous SMB games if you were going for 100%.
Anyway, I speed run SMB3 under an hour without warp whistle.

Another game I can actually speed run (i think?):
I have master the 3DS port of this game, and 100%* the whole game so many times, it felt possible to speed run this shit!
*When I said 100%, I meant the whole map filled up, all 17 transporters, all 5 crew members rescued, & all 20 twinkets!

Never tried it, but I think I could speedrun SMW if I put enough dedication. Besides that, I speedran Metroid Zero Mission and got a decent time on it I believe, though nothing fantastic, as I only managed to beat it under 2 hours and 40 minutes in one sitting.
