Re: MaGL X2 - RESULTS!!!!! (272nd-98th + 31st-12th MaFAB)

You guys realize that this has 272 places so idk how 97 is that bad compared to being on place 272 or 185. This isn't the average 80 entries like you get in the cc.

Yea, RudeGuy is right. I was placed in 71st place: "Link's Stronghold." (This was my first time participating MAGL X)

It is bad because it is close to my terrible level that deserves last place. If I made 111th and Emral made 97th, that is not far off, and I think it downgrades Emral's level for my score to be so close to his!

MaGL X2 Level Breakdowns:
  • 97th - Emral: 'Banzai Bill Are Supposed to Be Perpetual! Why Are You Being So Divergent?!?' - 67 (56/69/76):
    Spoiler: show
    Name Difficulty: Hard
    Final Score: 67
    Name Mulligans: 0
    Character Mulligans: 0
    Raw Score: 67
    Horikawa's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 56
      Uniqueness: 7
      Personal Fun Factor: 13
      Other Person Fun Factor: 14
      Music: 7
      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 1
      Level Name Adherence: 4
Comments: You relied heavily on that one sprite, but bizarrely it worked quite well with the level design and music! Felt like a nice, middle-of-the-game level. Maybe a midpoint would be nice, but it's not required.
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 69
      Uniqueness: 8
      Personal Fun Factor: 14
      Other Person Fun Factor: 17
      Music: 8
      Graphics: 9
      Character Use: 2
      Level Name Adherence: 9
Comments: Having the same graphic for every enemy made it difficult to tell what kind of enemy they were. Besides that, it's a simple enough NSMB-styled run with not a whole lot going on.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 76
      Uniqueness: 11
      Personal Fun Factor: 14
      Other Person Fun Factor: 15
      Music: 10
      Graphics: 10
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: A pretty silly, yet adorable level. It's fun to play and there aren't any flaws, but there's nothing really standing out aside from the bullet bills.
96th - Nimono: 'Hey Buddy! Get Your Monty Mole Off My Mansion' - 67.33 (57/74/71):
    Spoiler: show
    Name Difficulty: Medium
    Final Score: 67.3333333333
    Name Mulligans: 0
    Character Mulligans: 0

      Personal Fun Factor: 13
      Other Person Fun Factor: 10
      Music: 6
      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 2
      Level Name Adherence: 7
Comments: Ahhhhhh! I loved the Luigi's Mansion flavour! The music was great and everything too! Maybe less boos on the boo ride though!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 74
      Uniqueness: 10
      Personal Fun Factor: 19
      Other Person Fun Factor: 18
      Music: 9
      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 2
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: That sudden transition to underground felt out of place, but I like how someone used 'ghost-attached-platforms' with the emphasis of managing other enemies rather than traversing spike infested fields. -- yeah dark moon music
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 71
      Uniqueness: 12
      Personal Fun Factor: 12
      Other Person Fun Factor: 14
      Music: 10
      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Fun level. It put Luigi's Mansion into SMBX well. The attaching layers was a nice touch too.
95th - SlurryMoon: 'I Believe That Chain Chomp Are Dusty and I Feel Very Strongly About This!' - 67.34 (65/74/63) (Sturg's real comment):
    Spoiler: show
    Name Difficulty: Medium
    Final Score: 67.3433333333
    Name Mulligans: 0
    Character Mulligans: 0
    Raw Score: 67.3333333333
    Horikawa's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 65
      Uniqueness: 8
      Personal Fun Factor: 14
      Other Person Fun Factor: 16
      Music: 6
      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 3
      Level Name Adherence: 9
Comments: You took this name really far! Your chain chomp use was great! Your midpoint location was kinda weird though in my opinion!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 74
      Uniqueness: 11
      Personal Fun Factor: 19
      Other Person Fun Factor: 16
      Music: 9
      Graphics: 4
      Character Use: 5
      Level Name Adherence: 9
Comments: Unique gimmick, but it doesn't pan out too well. Due to how much it lagged the screen, but mostly being messy in general. Other than that though, this level is pretty solid with what it does.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 63
      Uniqueness: 10
      Personal Fun Factor: 12
      Other Person Fun Factor: 12
      Music: 7
      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Creative use of the level name! I like all the secrets you could find in the level. They were all cleverly hidden too.
94th - Penguin Emperor: 'Hey Dad! I Made a DDR Level in the Smbx Engine! Please Love Me...' - 67.35 (82/55/65):
    Spoiler: show
    Name Difficulty: Hard
    Final Score: 67.3533333333

      Other Person Fun Factor: 15
      Music: 9
      Graphics: 3
      Character Use: 5
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Heck yeah! Man I don't care if some people don't like this level or the midpoint is too high to make it easy to get, I LOVED this level! So inventive!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 55
      Uniqueness: 8
      Personal Fun Factor: 13
      Other Person Fun Factor: 11
      Music: 7
      Graphics: 1
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 9
Comments: While it looked rather shoddy, and some game-play depended on memorization, I had fun with this level. It DOES lose a lot of charm after replaying it a few times though.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 65
      Uniqueness: 13
      Personal Fun Factor: 12
      Other Person Fun Factor: 16

      Graphics: 4
      Character Use: 2
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: This level is silly, but it's a good silly.
93rd - Ultratapir: 'Back in My Day They Nested in the Mushroom Kingdom' - 67.66 (63/73/67):
    Spoiler: show

      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 1
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Great way to interpret the title! I felt like the first half had more coherent direction and looked great, but the second half was good too!

      Character Use: 2
      Level Name Adherence: 9
Comments: The Tank was an extreme change of pace from the rest of the level, and felt out of place. The 1st half was super adorable and carefree, but then it went to a dark place.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 67
      Uniqueness: 13

      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Nice use of the level name. The level was pretty fun too, though the indoor section was a bit cramped.
92nd - Alice: 'those horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible little masks' - 67.67 (63/68/72):

      Graphics: 6
      Character Use: 5
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: A fun little phanto-replacement level =). I really liked the flavour here and the gameplay was super fun too. I kinda wish I was given more explanation why I was here though!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 68

      Music: 10
      Graphics: 9
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 7
Comments: Lovely little desert level. 'Twas a tad underwhelming obstacle-wise though, and I wish that you could've experimented a bit more with the design. Although, trying to jump on the Phantos' as Link was slightly annoying.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 72
      Uniqueness: 11
      Personal Fun Factor: 13
      Other Person Fun Factor: 14
      Music: 10
      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 5
      Level Name Adherence: 10
Comments: Nice little level. Link's mechanics were used nicely, especially when inside the pyramid. The key location could have been made more obvious though.
    91st - quantae95: 'Lava Water Star' - 67.68 (69/74/60):
    Spoiler: show

    Final Score: 67.6866666667

      Music: 9
      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 1
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: Heck yeah!!!! I love it when designers make bold choices with their music, etc. and totally follow through with neat design and aesthetic. A bit short maybe. But otherwise great!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 74
      Uniqueness: 10
      Personal Fun Factor: 20
      Other Person Fun Factor: 15
      Music: 10
      Graphics: 8
      Character Use: 3
      Level Name Adherence: 7
Comments: Maybe a tad too easy. Some enemies held no imminent danger, nor did the 'floating water' gimmick expand past basic platforming. But for how simple it was, I enjoyed the mixture of swimming/platforming.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 60
      Uniqueness: 8
      Personal Fun Factor: 11
      Other Person Fun Factor: 12
      Music: 9
      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 4
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: I would have liked to see a more creative use of the lava/water gimmick. What you did was fine, but it was a little too simple for my tastes.
    90th - Antiginger: 'Sheik's Mouth' - 68 (63/64/77):
    Spoiler: show
    Name Difficulty: Medium

      Graphics: 7
      Character Use: 3
      Level Name Adherence: 8
Comments: This had so much soul behind it, I can't help but love it. It needs polish in the clone section and removing the moving grate. The rest is great! Mecha-Sheik made me laugh so hard!
    Sturg's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 64
      Uniqueness: 9

      Graphics: 6
      Character Use: 3
      Level Name Adherence: 4
Comments: That ending sequence may had gone on for too long, and I didn't enjoy the Shadow-Clone section so much. But I LOVED that 1st half, the constant flow of platforming in that area was sweet.
    Quill's Breakdown
    • Final Score: 77

Comments: The start was very nice as everything was sinking. There's a general great amount of variety in this level. The final chase was strangely majestic.

Comments: This is your first level isn't it? I think so. Either way, it's kinda great! Very creative use of the Birdo battles! Looked great, was hilarious – great job! <3

Comments: Loved the SM3D Savannah-esque design. It was pretty bare in game-play, but at the same time that's kind of what makes a savannah! Decent job for the amount of time you did this!

Comments: Nice level. Magikoopa battling you several times is a cool idea, though the battles are easy. The level had some nice humor too.

      Level Name Adherence: 7
Comments: Oi. Well made, but… I feel like there's a point where 'precise' becomes 'tediously finnicky' and this stage definitely hit that. Also, making you redo 3/4 of the level for the second star…

Fallen behind due to my move, but I'm catching up.

You need Yoshi's Island graphics if you're going to use Plok music. As much as I love the Plok soundtrack, it requires proper colour and shading. But the character switching gimmick was quite neat.

(Separate post because this one includes a question.)

When the judges got a taste of "the rainbow", was the finale the same one used in part 126, or the following supplement video where it displayed properly?

Apparently, it displayed properly for Horikawa, but Sturg played it with the bug fixed. Not sure about Quill, though.
I've decided to cancel SMBXville Under Seige. After my 1st Senior year of college, I realized I wouldn't have enough time to devote to finishing my four-level episode. Apologies to those who cared.

Huh? Weird Goonie picked the one burger that isn't supposed to be able to roll!

The use of so many brand names like that is something I would expect from a joke level near the beginning of the game. But with everything else there, Goonie has definitely earned the very high ranking!
