Nova Level Contest 2 (Preview / Planning Phase / WIP)

This is going to be the second Nova Contest; due to the massive success of the first Nova Contest reaching 40 submissions, the Novaverse Community has decided to host another contest. This contest will be however way different than the first one because we will ask YOU to pick the gimmick of this contest. We have a couple of suggestions made already but we're open for any further ideas and feedback. A poll will be held to decide the gimmick.

This contest is scheduled after CCX1, hence in Summer or early Autumn.

people will vote on it and we will plan it out until we reach our reserved timeslot which is Summer-Autumn.

Only SMBX 2.0 Beta 4 submissions will be allowed.
Judging is supposed to be 100% anonymous, so any prior showcasing of your level (or giving hints about what your level is) before the results will not be allowed.
Unlike the first contest, there won't be multiple submissions this time.
The judges won't compete.
Collabs of two people will be allowed.
The rest will be decided by the Judges.

Criteria of judging hasn't been decided yet, it's up to the judges to decide how they want to judge the submissions. Again, suggestions and feedback are welcome.

Extra Judges: Free Spot
If you're interesting in judging, hit us up, it's always good to have a fourth judge, as well as backup judges in case one of us gets problems.

Now, for the most important part, gimmick suggestions that you can expand by your own and vote later! It's also considered to have a multi-gimmick contest where participants could pick one out of several gimmicks according to their preference.
Gimmick 1a: Musical Moods contest, choose a song or piece of music that's not from a videogame and make your level around it.
Gimmick 1b: Quote contest, design a level around a specific given quote by the organizators (like in Maglx3, you'll be able to choose). Examples would be "The wind blows harder the more you move against it" or "Your reflection shows your darkest colors".
Gimmick 2: No-Power ups contest, the people who played Celeste will surely like it, design a level without any power ups. (Small passive filters should be placed around checkpoints)
Gimmick 3: Final Level contest: Make a level that could be considered a final level of an episode. Can be a Bowser castle or an epic bonus finale.
Gimmick 4+: ????

Since this is a contest for the community, it has been decided this contest won't be connected to the Novaverse or be impacted by it in any way, it's our way of thanking people for sticking so long with us and providing them with something to play even if it's not official to the Novaverse.
The Hub/World Map Maker will develop the episode of this contest, The Novaverse Youtube Channel will advertise it first with a trailer and then with a showcase of all of the submissions like what the showcase with the first Nova Contest and Eclipsed would stream all of the submissions so stay tuned for that.
The Episode will be available to be downloaded as soon as the Judges finish judging and the Hub/World Map Maker finishes his part of the workload.

I think in my own opinion, Gimmick 2 sounds like the perfect excuse for me (if i have the time to enter) to make a level inspired by freaking I WANNA BE THE GUY, as long as multiple checkpoints are allowed.

Sure, that's quite in the sense of the gimmick! You can have as many checkpoints as you want. Either you'll be asked to place small passive filters or we'll provide a checkpoint that doesn't turn the player big.

I really like this one, there's some many possibilities. Although, I'd say that the "quotes" should be a bit shorter, like, say, "all aboard".

I believe you can make a checkpoint not give a powerup with .txt files, if I remember correctly.

I'm really liking 1a and 1b.
I reckon the most creative levels could come of those.

Are these gimmicks simply ideas, or are they options to base our level around?

Mech talked with me about making the world map in a duo (us two), is that allowed?

Also, gimmicks 1b and 2 seem pretty interesting to have. I'd like 2 more, but 1b is fine as well.

I'd like to participate. My Gimmick Suggestion would be a Level centered around a Main Villain. Means Things like Pictures, Special Enemies and so on. This Villain also shouldn't be Bowser because that's too easy.

Honestly, I am okay if three is chosen, but one-a is one I would hate doing personally. One-b would not be the "end of the world" contest wise to me, but I am not a fan of it personally. Currently, two and three are the most enjoyable and two is my current go too.

Since you gonna force participants to construct levels for Beta4, it's better to make No Moving Layers contest (no matters if it move through events or lunalua script). Attaching is also should be prohibited. Platform NPCs may be used.

I don't see why we should prohibit moving layers in the contest, especially since a lot of levels don't use moving layers anyways.

There's bug in Beta 4 when if NPC with Layer2 attached to NPC from Layer1, which attached to another one NPC, then attached NPC with Layer2 will not move. Also some NPCs like bill blasters, tank fragments and even SML2 goombas don't attach layers anymore.
