To be fair, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric at least has a patch that makes the game playable now, and it's fairly enjoyable, but not the greatest Sonic game we've seen. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, on the other hand, was never patched. Hopefully SEGA will consider remaking it to correct the mistakes that were made.
My vote for the worst game of all-time goes to either Superman 64 or E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial. S64 was horrible in every aspect possible, not just in gameplay, but also from visuals and storyline. E.T., on the other hand, is highly responsible for causing the infamous video game industry crash.

Knuckles wasn't very smart to begin with. His traps were pretty pathetic if he expected them to work, and he was stupid enough to trust Eggman a second time in Sonic Adventure. Breaking the Master Emerald to prevent someone from stealing it also seems like a pretty lame excuse too. There isn't even enough of a personality to determine his intelligence in the 16-bit games.
