Do you feel like you have grown as a person?

Postby Locus » Sat Mar 23, 2019 12:36 pm

I am not sure whether or not somebody already made a thread for this but regardless here it is, if there is this topic will just be merged with the one that already exists, I don't mind. Either way, I am sure you have all reflected upon yourself. And this is something that has recently been on my mind a lot. I feel like back then, I had like nothing to worry about and I could enjoy myself just fine, but with this growing as a person comes a lot of thoughts that start popping up and you start regretting the things you may have said or done wrong. Maybe you regret being asshole to somebody that one time when you were still 12 or ruin something for them because you made them feel bad for liking a thing. Whatever it is I hope a thread like this can be put to good use. Everyone makes mistakes in their life and I feel that it is okay to talk about it with others. So that brings me to the title of this thread, do you feel like you have grown as a person and if so, are there things you wish to reflect upon?

I've grown but not that much

Some stuff about me have improved but other stuff has become worse like my emotional state
But I feel like I've grown or changed a lot since 2017

So this is going to be a long one but i am writing this with the goal of influencing other's views on me as a person in a more positive light, if it doesn't work oh well, at least you will know more about me.
Spoiler: show
So i have grown a lot since i first joined the community in January 2017, i was just 15 years old, and i lacked a lot of the life and smbx experience i have today.
I remember i was very annoying back then and i didn't have a clear way to achieve my goals.
I tried also new things which failed because of the problems i had back then with my personality, as i said, i was very annoying and i gave up easily.
Fortunately i have learned a lot from my past mistakes. Life was hard back then, i didn't know a thing about life and i was just starting to get into a lot of problems.
So yeah, my first in the community was awful, well i think for the other people around me lol.
In the start of 2018, i tried new things which again failed and i was starting to have serious problems irl that i just didn't know how to solve.
Mid 2018 i took a lot of decisions which made me grow a bit as a person but nothing major.
End of 2018 i started to get in a lot of serious problems which were gonna decide how my future would play out, both with smbx and irl.
I didn't care that much about them as i didn't know the consequences but fast forward to the beginning of 2019 and oh boy, i was forced to grow as a person.
For smbx, i was banned from numerous smbx related servers for a good reason, i was getting into conflicts for no reason and i was just making myself look like a fool and irl, my family got very low with the finances and we had to get
social allowance but i had to translate a lot and go to the appointments instead of attending school, which had a lot of consequences 2 months later...
So i had to solve a lot of problems, both to find a way to fix my reputation in smbx and find a way to better myself and stop causing conflicts for no reason and to solve all of the finance problems and so on that my family had.
I was trying, i tried to ask for help and i tried to listen to feedback. Slowly it started working but at the start of this month, i messed up, i missed out on my last appointment for the social allowance and we were very close to losing our chance of social allowance, i also had to candidate for other schools or i would have lost the chance to continue/finish my education but i got rejected from multiple schools because of all of the hours i wasn't in school but on the appointments to help out my parents. I had an emotional breakdown, i didn't know what to do other than cry until the Social Worker in my school helped me, he told me how to improve myself, he told me what to do and i listened, i used all of my chances, i never waited for them, the moment i heard about them, i used them and during that time, i grew a lot as a person, i made a lot of sacrifices and i changed myself a lot in order to fix all of the shit i got into, at the start, nothing was working but i kept going, i didn't give up because i knew that if i do, i will live in the streets without education and i didn't want my family, especially my baby sister to live on the streets so i pushed myself to the limit, i managed to get another last appointment for the social allowance and i had to be perfect in my interview where i candidated for a school... well, i was, i did everything right, i listened to everything the social worker told me to do and i did it, i got accepted in the school, i was crying out of happiness, i went through such a rough time, nobody understanded me, i have thought about well, the worst things... and yet, i managed to did it, this really made me grew as a person, it opened my eyes, now i believe i can do everything if i just put my will and use all of my chances and never give up! It's true people, i never believed in this until now, now i try to be professional on my internship, i try to concentrate at school, i try to get help from a psychotherapist to control my stress and irl problems and i try to make the people around me be happy, both irl and smbx wise.
So yeah, this is my story, well a part of it but still, i really grew as a person since 2 years ago and i have learned so many stuff, i hope the people who read my story can use the experience i got and make their lives a bit easier.

Everyone grows up over the time of socialising themselves in a circle of people, that's why everyone looks back at their first posts and considers them cringy, even when they thought at the beginning that they acted in best faith. #circleoflife

Still using the legacy editor? Get SMBX2 and PGE, it will improve your experience significantly. Here's why. And remember, Yoshis are tools to be used and discarded.

I feel like I've grown, I'm not too sure how right now, but I definitely feel like some things in life have changed. Especially with SMBX, I used to not know a thing about the game or community. Well now I'm here, and I thank everyone for helping me grow my knowledge about this game and community.

I have, by no doubt, grown significantly over the course of just a few years. While I still might be crazy like I used to be (if you really know me, you know what I'm talking about), I'm now able to handle things maturely. Unfortunately, however, I've also gained new problems, most of which I...can't really describe without being extremely controversial.

Now, originally I was going to post a wall of text about my life story or whatever but one large post for the night is enough. Perhaps another time I'll elaborate.
Don't expect me to post here often, if at all.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that this isn't supposed to happen.

I can say I did grow up in many ways thanks to both the community and IRL events.

Back when I originally joined NSMBX, my very first introduction to the SMBX community entirely, my grammar was horrible, I would get angry at minuscule things and be biased on many occasions and although I tried my darn best not show it, I was very manipulative. All of these haunt me to this day, and seeing how well I am treated in this community makes me appreciate it so much more than you can imagine.

I have fought over the dumbest things, perceived certain people as enemies and talked ill of them behind their back within my circle of friends. I am constantly reminded of these awful things whenever I go in a private call on Discord that I did this for no other reason than "I didn't get my way", which is what I deserved for trying to get my way in the first place.

An example of me saying something I regret and cringe at the mere sight of it is the debate over the public elections for moderators where I would constantly bash Joey for not picking me. I remember being so butthurt that I even created my own forum, which died in less than twenty-four hours.

Again, stupid things I did in the past, I see them like sins crawling on my back, weighing on my consciousness to the point of feeling awkward around the people I undeservingly treated poorly. To some, this may not seem like a big deal, but to me, it's something that matters a lot. I guess I was afraid of being hurt when people weren't really doing things to me but rather doing things in general.

To everyone that has stuck with me until now regardless of my quirks and flaws, thank you. You will always hold a special place in my soul.

And hey, this may be off-topic, but when I say my grammar was horrible I meant it. Just look at some of the older posts I've ever made.
Well, i love making background musics for SMBX, it´s a cool thing look how it looks like a level with a custom music you made. So i´m asking this question:
Can i submit my own music creations for other people?
And ... where is the fan art section? I were looking for it and i don´t see it
I would but shamely it´s not sundey. Read my first post again.

Having groups of people to support you is always an important thing. You can always fall back on your friends when the time is tough, and they can help you grow even more.

It depends on the context.
I have more mature posting habits (although a bad habit on Discord where two parts of my statement/question is separated into multiple portions; on another hand, I have a much smaller sense of humor compared to two years ago.

Looking back, I cannot believe how "innocent" I was before late 2018 lmao

all in all, I feel I have grown a bit, but that's just me talking; I'm sure others will think differently
Hello, I make a lot of typos
specific people know my whereabouts though

my wifi is as useful as a brick

im more active on discord

 I'm not (completely) dead; I rarely talk because I usually have nothin to say; I'll talk when I actually have a comment I want to make, or if someone asks me somethin...

nostalgia is a beautiful thing, isn't it?

anything before 2020 is most likely me being a weirdo or an idiot.

Really? For me, it's the complete opposite. Mostly because I opened myself and let some people in my heart.

Same, I feel like we have to retain at least a part of our childish personality or else we will lose the memories of probably the best time in our lives when we were free from stress and our whole future was ahead of us...

That's a process of growing up. Tastes change, and views and personal beliefs change. If you look back on how you were in 10 years compared to then, you might be surprised.

When you reach a state that you are both a child and an adult, you will know you have matured. Maturing is just a process of becoming more aware of oneself and how to relate to oneself, life, and others, from a healthy point of view. I have worked a lot in my life with elder people and they are all childs and adults at the same time. They discovered themselves and they got aware of who they really are.

If you wish to understand the Universe think of energy, frequency and vibration.

If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have a key to the Universe.

What we now want is closer contact and better understanding between individuals and communities all over the Earth, and the elimination of egoism and pride which is always prone to plunge the world into primeval barbarism and strife. Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment.

A lot in terms of maturity and personality.

Comment from my teacher to my year-end reflection:
"Cato, your year-end reflection really tells me who you're grown into :). I'm proud to see your personal development. You seem to be really mature. Just believe in yourself! I know you get what it takes to accomplish great things in this world. Not everyone might understand you, but you are surely a bright, smart and sophisticated young man with a remarkable future of you! :) Add Oil!"
