Questions about SMBX2

Postby thedarkcave215 » Mon Jun 15, 2020 2:33 pm

I've decided on having 3 versions of SMBX: 1.3.0.1, 38A, and 2.0, but I have some questions:

From this video, it looks like episodes from 1.3 will work just fine with 2.0:

Is this true?

From that same video, it appears to launch from the title screen instead of loading into the episode from the launcher. Is this an option?

And the title screen itself looks different. Can you change it to be something else?

Thanks in advance for your replies! :)
Soon enough, this pandemic will be over. ;)

Yeah everything 1.3 is compatible. A few things might have minor visual differences, though (sizables now all have a bottom-end visually distinct from the middle section, for instance).
Usually, episodes are launched from the launcher. You may decide to instead load into a different episode, exit out to the title screen, and then navigate over to the episode you actually want to play. This method is fairly redundant, though, and its sole benefit is for very specific smbx recording intros.
The ingame menu has always been customizable by changing intro.lvl. However, you are also able to create a launcher page specific to your episode, which has the benefit of other people seeing that before starting the game. Here's the thread on how to do that:

Hope that resolves those questions.

Thanks, I'll try this out.

I changed the music in my intro.lvl file in my 1.3 installation, but didn't bother with the terrain because I don't know if that screws up the characters on the title or not.

Just like in 1.3, the characters need a bit of a walkway to the left for them to spawn on. However, I think the characters are disabled by default in the newest version, since we're moving towards making that screen useless anyway.

Can I move my old invasion 2 save from the old version to the new version? I found another file in another save that's called save1-ext.dat and another one called progress.json. Are these gonna be problematic?

Those shouldn't cause problems at all.

The save1-ext.dat file is just for extra save file data used by SMBX2 - it's not going to matter for 1.3 episodes.

The progress.json file stores achievement data for SMBX2, again it won't matter for 1.3 episodes.

Alright, thanks everyone. Do I still need SMBX 1.3 or should I stop using it?

If you have a SMBX2 install, there's no reason to use 1.3.

The aforementioned files are essential for e.g. cumulated score. If you move a save file from 1.3 over, you start playing at 0 points and have your score saved from that moment.

Still using the legacy editor? Get SMBX2 and PGE, it will improve your experience significantly. Here's why. And remember, Yoshis are tools to be used and discarded.
