That world map...does not look very good. There's such an extreme concentration of scenery everywhere that it's hard to even see the levels at first glance. Try downloading SMBX 2.0 maybe? I know it definitely decreases lag in certain places, though I'm not entirely sure if it'll help with your specific issue.
