The project looks really good, the story is unique(ish), and it looks promising. However, in my honest opinion, I don't think the shy-guys should be corrupted. They technically aren't minions of Bowser (they're minions of Wart), but that's just a small detail. Keep up the good work!

Maybe, but it's also not good for a Rex to immediately hurt you as you jump on it. Maybe attach-to-layer between two enemies could occur and a slight delay could be present between the small one dying and the big one appearing. I think some form of delay would help, but it would have to be a second...
